Material properties
Acetate
has an unusual combination of properties that are unmatched by other materials. Cellulosic and thermoplastic,
it can selectively absorb and remove low levels of certain organic chemicals and be easily bonded with
plasticizers, heat and pressure.
Chemical solubility
Acetate
is soluble in many common solvents and can be modified to be soluble in alternative solvents, including
water.
Hydrophilic performance
Acetate
wets easily, with good liquid transport and excellent absorption. In textile applications, it provides
comfort and absorbency.
Safe to use
Acetate
fibers are hypoallergenic and have been used successfully in a variety of applications that touch the
skin…everything from bandages to lingerie.
High surface area
Acetate's crenulated fiber cross-section provides greater surface area than any other
"round" fibers with even more surface area provided by the Y cross-section.
Environmentally
sound
Acetate is made from a renewable resource - reforested trees. It can be composted
or incinerated, making it ideal for durable goods and disposables.
